Mine I renamed to TV and it works without any issues. Even though the Nvidia Shield TV is our favorite media streamer , it is by no means perfect (we’ll talk more about that in a second). Despite its imperfections, Nvidia is working hard to make the device even better, with new Google Home integrations rolling out now.
But lately, things haven’t been working out as usual. In fact, some owners of older Shield TVs say the issue has been around for quite a long time, some dating it back to the day the device picked up the 8.0.1 update. Over the last four or so years, NVIDIA has established itself as the maker of the best streaming video player in the thin Android TV set-top box market. The first Shield TV came about in 2015 and was refreshed in 2017. I love being able to walk in a room and give a command and my TV turns on, sets proper input, plays video.

Updated Shield's software to the latest version and all apps updated on it? I had to reboot my Shield TV once after setting up Home but now it's working fine. Have you tried casting normally from an app like youtube?
With that in mind, it’s hard to tell you what’s new on the list and what’s not. Not OP, but I have never been able to get it to successfully connect. I have a lot of connected devices in my house, so it's not from lack of experience. You have to cast something to the shield you're trying to add, and then you should have some notification in the Home app that a device that hasn't been added to your home is casting.
NVIDIA Shield Google Home integration is broken for some, but there's a way out
These new features are rolling out to SHIELD users this month. They also say you can restart your device to receive the update within a day. The NVIDIA Shield is a wonderful streaming box that can support crazy high-quality resolution and audio standards. While there are obvious preferred TV choices for using this tech, the Shield will work with almost any standard television with an HDMI input. If HDMI is not available on your TV, you can of course get a dongle to connect to the Shield, but this probably isn’t the best way to get the most out of this device. As long as you’ve got an HDMI connection, you should be more than ready to get connected to the Shield.

Google Home can now control your NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV
You can now enjoy controlling your NVIDIA Shield TV via Google Home, just like this Redditor who says the above workaround fixed the bug for them. Tap each device and unlink them from your account. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner to continue. On the other hand, the older Shield TVs from 2015 and 2017 are no slouch either. NVIDIA has consistently kept them in the best shape possible through regular software updates, but of course, it always feels nice to have new stuff around you, especially a new Shield remote. Mine worked perfectly with the Shield out of the box.
SHIELD TV comes preloaded with Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Plex, Google Play Movies, Google Play Music, and the NVIDIA Games app preinstalled. When we’re talking about what TVs are best for the NVIDIA Shield, it’s really about what TVs can handle the resolution and features of the product. At the very least, you need an HDMI connection on your TV to get things connected. If you are eager to try out the features, a restart of your SHIELD TV will deliver the new features within a day. It’s also great for those times you’re just being flat out lazy.
If you take a glance at the NVIDIA Shield , you’d be forgiven for confusing it with almost any other streaming box on the market. While the product might cater to a crowd looking for higher-end graphics, that doesn’t mean it is not built for everyone to use. Google Home already worked with SHIELD, providing basic controls. Once SHIELD is restarted, press the microphone button on your remote to complete the Google Assistant setup on your device. Secondly, the list Nvidia published of “new” commands you can use with Google Home is mixed up with commands which have worked for a long time now. For example, the list includes, “Hey Google, play on YouTube on Shield,” which is a command which has worked for at least a year now.
But that doesn’t include all TVs, of course. There are some TVs that you may want to search for to ensure the best quality when it comes time to sit down and enjoy a movie or a show. It will work with any TV that has an HDMI connection, while there are specific high-tech TVs that the NVIDIA Shield will work best with. If it doesn’t, you can still get things connected using an HDMI converter, but keep in mind the quality of the image and the audio may be compromised as a result. Using just your voice, the deeper integration brings new functionality and control between your Google Home and SHIELD.
It cannot control the volume of my TV and is back to having issues. I tried pausing in HBO Go app and that did not work. Nvidia’s refreshed SHIELD streaming box launched internationally last year, and as of right now you can finally grab it in Australia. Just like before, Google Assistant is also on the SHIELD TV. So you can talk directly to the SHIELD to do these things as well. We're really glad to see NVIDIA and Google finally iron out these issues that have been annoying for a while.
While the Nvidia Shield TV Pro keeps to the traditional design of the streaming device line, the new Nvidia Shield TV looks completely different. Both devices do come with a redesigned Shield Remote which is a lot more stylish than its previous iteration. The Nvidia Shield TV is more reminiscent of a streaming stick – but not quite. SHIELD TV includes the Android TV operating system, including the Google Play store, which provides access to thousands of apps and games.
I've tried the suggestions on this thread and nothing has worked. There was some integration before, but it was messy. You could say "turn on Living Room TV" and it would work, but Google Assistant would never actually respond.
Complete the setup by following the first set of instructions (delete Google Assistant app data on SHIELD, restart SHIELD, press microphone button, use Google Home to assign SHIELD to room, etc.).
